Kalina Decheva walking around the local market on a Wednesday. She puts great importance on eating healthy, organic food and often goes to the market rather than buy fruits and vegetables from the supermarkets. She is looking to buy fresh strawberries and tomatoes, maybe some walnuts.
Kalina fixes her gaze on some strawberries and is hand-picking the best of them. She always brings her own fabric bags and refuses to use any plastic bags because she wants to be sustainable and cares about the environment. Most salespeople look at her puzzled since they are not used to this practice and environmental issues still remain of little importance in Bulgaria.
Kalina is checking out the soups of the day at PolCa, the local go-to snack place for students. She loves eating soups and vegetables but avoids eating meat, even though she says she is not a vegetarian. She often comes here for a delicious soup and this time she opts for a mixed vegetable soup.
Unfortunately, PolCa doesn’t offer reusable silverware and bowls so she has to use plastic this time. She puts cheese, croutons, and parsley in her soup to make it even tastier.
Kalina also goes on a conditional workout 2–3 times a week. Exercising is a vital part of her life. She can’t go long without doing some kind of sport in her daily routine. She says the workout is tough and every part of her body hurts afterwards but she still finds pleasure.
The workout group is small but everyone is motivated and determined to perform the tough exercises. Kalina has also trained swimming and Latin dances during her school years.
Kalina is hanging out with her friend and flatmate on the balcony of the dormitory. The two come from the same hometown but met in university. They are very good friends and spend lots of time together.
Kalina is doing some school work on her laptop since she is a diligent student and cares about her studies. She often takes an afternoon nap because it helps her focus better later.
Kalina always prefers drinking coffee in the afternoon rather than in the morning when she wakes up. She is a huge coffee-lover and has her own reusable coffee cup that she brings every time she buys a coffee from a cafe. She also enjoys reading and learning about different sorts of coffee.
The picture of a colorful sheep is always on her desk. It is a handmade gift by her younger sister and she cherishes it very much. She also likes to light aroma candles from time to time.
Kalina and her friend Tsveti decorate the dormitory yard for the radio AURA recruitment party. Kalina has been part of the club since her freshman year. Her job is to find sponsors and organize events.
Kalina is trying to find the right way to put up the decoration. Radio AURA is the only student club she is part of. Recently, she got accepted into The Hub, an IT club, and shares she is really excited to try something different.
Kalina has had lots of fun memories with her friends from the club. This memory lane decoration is aiming to show prospective club members what it means to be a part of AURA, the oldest club on campus.
Kalina takes good care of her teeth and brushes them at least twice a day. She is trying to use toothpaste with organic ingredients. When she was in school, she used to wear braces and now she is not taking her impeccable smile for granted.
Kalina is getting ready to go to bed. Like most young people nowadays, her phone is always beside her. She says she wants to spend more time away from her phone. “I want to quit social media. It’s exhausting to constantly look at other people’s lives. I want to focus on my own and what is happening around me,” she says.
